The 2008 Whakapakari youth
leadership wananga was held in Hicks Bay on the East Cape from
1-4 October with participants from Otautahi, Whangarei, Tauranga,
Tairawhiti and Hawai'i. The event included korero on the history
of the area and visits to sites of signficance for the people
of Tuwhakairiora - as well as community service projects at the
local kura kaupapa, kaumatua flats and clearing a paa harakeke
at Hinemauria Marae.
