QUALITATIVE EVALUATION

In 2006, Te Ora Hou Otautahi commissioned Development Matters Ltd. to evaluate the impact of Te Ora Hou services over the past ten years.

Feedback from past participants on the direct values and benefits highlighted:

  • the development of friendships
  • the positive influence and support from leaders
  • the growth and development of confidence and personal skills
  • the redirection of young people's energy and enthusiasm into positive activities
  • Te Ora Hou club programmes were highlighted as being fun, diverse and helping shape their recreation and life choices.

Family/whanau members interviewed identified:

  • an increase in confidence of their youth
  • the respect, trust and open communication rangatahi developed in the leaders
  • the positive influence the leaders had on the activities and decision making processes of the youth
  • the ability of Te Ora Hou to provide activities and gender based mentoring that they (as a sole parent) were not in a position to provide
  • the connections that are developed and maintained with whanau by Te Ora Hou workers as they work with rangatahi, the importance of this and the support, advice and guidance they receive as parents/whanau when dealing with youth related issues.
